How digital Proof of Existence and Integrity works

How Certelo creates verifiable evidence: your browser calculates a digital fingerprint of your file, and Certelo records that fingerprint on the Electra Protocol blockchain.

Privacy by designThe original file remains on the user’s device while creating the proof. Certelo receives the fingerprint, not the document.
What the record supportsExistence: evidence that a matching file existed at or before the recorded blockchain time.
Integrity: a later file with the same fingerprint matches the recorded content.
01 · Create a proof

From file to timestamped proof

1

Select a file

The user chooses the document, design, code, audio or other digital file for which they want to create a proof.

USER ACTION
2

Hash locally

The browser calculates a SHA-256 fingerprint. The original file stays on the user’s device.

LOCAL BROWSER
3

Submit fingerprint

To create the proof, Certelo receives the fingerprint rather than the original file.

CERTELO
4

Create transaction

Certelo creates and signs an Electra transaction using its documented fingerprint payload.

CERTELO
5

Anchor on Electra

The signed transaction is broadcast to the public Electra Protocol network.

6

Receive your proof report

You immediately receive the PDF proof report, transaction ID and public explorer link, while the transaction awaits inclusion in a block.

IMMEDIATE DELIVERY
Confirmation happens in the backgroundAt delivery, the transaction is in the network’s waiting queue (the mempool), awaiting the next block. Once included, it becomes a confirmed blockchain record. Certelo monitors this automatically.
Your report stays the sameThe PDF proof report, transaction ID and explorer link you receive remain the same after confirmation. No replacement document or action is needed. You can follow confirmation through the explorer link.
02 · Verification

Three ways to find and verify a proof

Choose the option that suits you. Your file stays on your device: only its SHA-256 fingerprint or certificate ID is used for the search.

A

Check a file on CERTELO

  1. Open the Certelo verification page and select your file.
  2. Your browser calculates its SHA-256 fingerprint locally.
  3. Certelo searches its records for that fingerprint and displays the verification result.
BROWSER HASHING · CERTELO SEARCH
B

Search the explorer by file hash

  1. Calculate your file’s SHA-256 fingerprint locally using a hashing tool.
  2. Paste the hash into the Electra Protocol explorer search bar.
  3. When a match is found, open the related transaction to view the proof and blockchain details.

Search the explorer by certificate ID

  1. Copy the certificate ID from your PDF proof report.
  2. Paste the ID into the Electra Protocol explorer search bar.
  3. When found, the related transaction displays the recorded document hash, proof ID, and available blockchain details.

Checking a file’s integrityA match between your file’s SHA-256 fingerprint and the confirmed blockchain record supports its existence at or before the blockchain time and its integrity relative to that record.
Finding a record by IDThe certificate ID lets you find the proof. To check whether a file matches that proof, calculate the file’s SHA-256 fingerprint and compare it with the hash shown in the record. Matching fingerprints mean the file’s content matches the proof.

See an example Certelo proof in the explorer, including its document hash, proof ID, submission time and blockchain confirmation time.

Important boundaryBlockchain anchoring provides evidence that a matching fingerprint was recorded at or before the relevant blockchain record. It does not, by itself, establish who created the file, who owns it, or whether it is legally admissible in every jurisdiction.
