What are validator nodes?

A validator node is a special type of full node of Electra Protocol that participates in “consensus.” By participating in consensus, validator nodes become responsible for verifying, voting on, and maintaining a record of transactions. Validator nodes will underpin the security of the blockchain. That is why they are of vital importance to ensure that validator nodes remain both performant and trustworthy.

Validator nodes are an upcoming feature of Electra Protocol and is planned to be released after the release of the smart contracts platform. Validator nodes will significantly speed up the validation of transactions to under one second with instant finality.

The requirements necessary to run a validator node have not been released yet. Selected users will be able to run a validator node.
