Some users report a slow sync of the network, even though they are on a fast connection (like gigabit connectivity). The reason for this is a delay is the header synchronization. An improved header synchronization has recently been re-programmed, but the enhancement has not yet been rolled out yet to the wallet software.
Also, please keep in mind that the connectivity of the network participants also affects the speed of synchronization.
