What is the format of XEP addresses?

XEP is the native coin of Electra Protocol. Many XEP addresses start with “ep1…” (a string being 42 characters long). However, this is not the only supported address format. In total there are three supported address formats which have a varying length in bytes.

The three XEP address formats start with these letters:

  • EP1: SegWit address, 42 bytes long
  • P: Pay To Public Key , 34 bytes long (legacy address)
  • X: Pay To Script Hash, 34 bytes long

Wrapped XEP Addresses

If your wallet address is starting with a “0” you are most likely using Wrapped XEP running on the BNB Chain – which is another blockchain offering XEP tokens. Both XEP Coins (Electra Protocol) and Wrapped XEP tokens (BNB Chain) have the same value, but you cannot send them across chains. However, you can convert XEP coins to Wrapped XEP tokens and vice versa.
